Training

When starting at CCS, our Lead Trainer arranges a suitable times and dates for training. Our training programme is five days’ worth of training – working towards their Care Certificate which includes the following:

  • Understand your Role/ Personal Development
  • Duty of Care
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Person Centred Care
  • Effective Communication
  • Privacy and Dignity
  • Fluids and Nutrition
  • Awareness of Mental Health, Dementia and Learning Disability
  • Safeguarding Adults
  • Safeguarding Children
  • Basic Life Support
  • Health and Safety
  • Handling information (GDPR)
  • Medication Awareness
  • Infection Control

All of our training is through our sister company Continuity Training Academy.

Once completed training and all compliance is back (DBS & References) we then look at the new member of staff shadowing with either the Field Care Supervisor or Assistant Care Co-Ordinator. Our standard is a minimum of two shadow calls per Service User.

When looking at shadowing, the Co-Ordinating team will make sure that they are going to families who are local to them. This helps us with keeping the Continuity during the winter seasons and staff are able to walk to their care calls. This has proven successful in previous years.

Throughout the shadowing process and completion of the initial training our Lead Trainer will go out to competency assess the Care Assistant. Our policy around Medication Competency is that each member of staff will be signed off three times for medication. During the competency sign offs’ there are spot check questions that is asked to all Care Assistants to make sure they have clear understanding of medication administration
